Part 9: The Confessions of a Stupid Romantic - Hello? Yeah, I'm stealing your boyfriend.

Day 6:

Me: Are you going to Jova's office, today?

            Dan: No.

I was talking to him on the phone. I was still pretty upset from the disaster obstacle course two days ago.

Dan: We've been through too much lately.

Me: Yeah...like finding out about Angelina.

I heard Dan letting out a deep sigh. He really didn't think I would let it go so easily?

Dan: I'm sorry for not telling you about her. All the stuff I said about her having a career, wasn't true. I didn't tell you because I knew you would be very upset. Now, I realize that if I told you the truth from the beginning, we wouldn't be in such a mess.

Finally! I mean of course he should've told me from the beginning. I'm a big girl, I can handle myself.

Dan: But I was telling the truth about you being my longest relationship and knowing her for five years.

Me: How did you meet her?

Dan: Senior year in high school, I went to a journalists and photographer conference at a London hotel. I met her in the hotel lobby. We were both nervous about being in a country that we never visited before. We sat together at the conference and traded numbers. We been in contact ever since.

We been in contact ever since. If only I could scream without him hearing me.

Me: When did you and her started dating?

Dan: Two years ago. I don't think you want to hear this but after years of working with her I started to develop a crush on her. But she always had a boyfriend. When she and her boyfriend broke up, I saw an opening and made my move. She finally took a chance on me. We were dating for three months when she got a phone call to shoot male models in Brazil for a month. I let her go but I soon found out that she slept with one of the models. I broke up with her over the phone.

I knew that bitch was shady!

Me: That's terrible. I would never do you like that.

Dan: That's really nice to hear.

I knew he was smiling on the other line.

Me: Then why are you still contacting her?

Dan: After everything that happened in our personal lives, we were great professionally. Beth, I love what I do and won't let a grudge get in the way of that. I know you don't like her but you can trust me. I really care about you.

I wish I was more sure about that.

Me: Alright. Dan, I really appreciate you being honest with me. Changing the subject, I can't wait for our anniversary tomorrow. I didn't want things to be too much of a big deal because of everything that was going on, so I just got us reservations at Reserve, the new upscale Italian restaurant.

Dan: Oh my goodness, I forgot about that!

            Me: What?

I bet he can hear my voice tremble.

Dan: I'm so sorry, baby. I have an interview with Matt Damon for Esquire, tomorrow.

            Me: Are you serious, Dan?!

Dan: I know. I know. But I promise you I would be finish before our dinner starts.

            Me: Promise?

            Dan: Promise.

We traded I love you's and hang up the phone. How can he forget? I'm really starting to feel that he doesn't take this relationship serious.

Day 7:

I was so excited for this day. I styled my hair to long wavy locks, bought a new white dress and gorgeous gold accessories. I dug into my closet for my gold Jimmy Choos that I got for my birthday. The reason I'm so dolled up? It's Dan and I's six month anniversary. I know six months to some isn't a milestone but I've really have fallen for him. We're having dinner at the Reserve.

Right now I'm at Ashley's store for some girl talk.

Ashley:  It's really mess up how he forgot.

            Me: I know.

Ashley: Do you really trust him with your worst enemy?

Me: Not really, but I just want to focus on us tonight.

Ashley: But Angelina was his ex. Do you think he's over her?

Me: Of course, she cheated on him and it's been 2 years.

Ashley: That's all true but I still don't trust her.

I took Ashley's worries into consideration. I looked at the wall clock that read 7:15.  Dinner started at 8. I gave Ashley a kiss goodbye and headed home.

I got to Reserve, at 8:05. I called Dan twice but he didn't pick up. I decided to call him again later.

8:30. Still not here. I called him again but nothing.

8:45. I called him again. Then again. And again. One more time.

            A woman's voice: Hello?

            Me: Is Dan there?

            Woman: Yeah! Who's calling?

            Me: Beth. He's girlfriend.

Woman: Beth! I didn't know you were dating Dan?

            Me: Um...who's talking?

Woman: It's Angelina! It's been too long.

What? Instead of being with me, he's with her. Great. I could tell she was being fake. As if she really cared about talking to me. I started to grin my teeth.

Me:  Put Dan on the DAMN phone!

Angelina: Alright. You sound kinda upset.

Dan finally got on the phone,

            Dan: Hello?

Me: Where the hell are you? I've been waiting for you for 45 minutes.

Dan: I'm so sorry. I'm at Angelina's apartment going over my notes and her pictures of Matt Damon. I lost track of time. I think I can get there at 9:30.

Me: No! I had enough of your bullshit! You know what? Fuck this dinner!

I knew I was loud enough to hear. People were staring.

Me: Fuck Angelina. And fuck you. This relationship is over!

            Dan: But-

Me: No buts! I heard enough of that. I'm done!

I hung up the phone. I'm a really easy going person but there is so much I can take. The tears were coming as I deleted him from my contacts. Why do I keep dating these assholes? Did I make the right choice of breaking up with him? Comment.

Part 8: The Confessions of a Stupid Romantic - Racing to the End

Day 4:

I woke up this morning with a lot of shoulder pain. Its happens when I go to bed upset. I haven't felt this bad since I found out there was going to be a new baby Kardashian in the world. I was so upset because I found out that my boyfriend, Dan, was secretly working with his ex. Apparently he didn't tell me because he thought I would be threaten that he been with a girl with a REAL career. That overqualified bitch!

I painfully got out of bed to take a shower. This afternoon I have to wear outdoor/workout clothes because today's challenge would be at the park. Usually Dan would drive me but yesterday ended so badly that being in the same car would make things more awkward. So I decided to walk. I zipped up my pink sports jacket and tugged my matching pink tights. Don't judge me. Just because I feel miserable doesn't mean I have to look like it.

When I got to the park, I saw Jova right away, but I also saw Dan by her side.

Jova: Okay, love birds, today's activity is all about trust. One of you will be blindfolded as you will trust your partner in walking, running, and jumping a obstacle course together. You will first run around orange cones, slide  down a mat filled with water, jump over a park bench and a big patch of dirt, and then run to the finish line. Who wants to go first?

Are you serious? Neither of us raised our hands, and Dan gave me a worried look. I turned my head so I wouldn't see his beautiful eyes.

            Dan: I'll go first.

Jova blinded Dan, then handcuffed us together. What? Did Katy Perry do this with Russell?

            Jova: Ready. Set. Go!

I confidently guided Dan around the cones but was a little hesitant when reaching the slide. We then reached the bench.

Me: We're at the bench. We need to jump at the same time.

Dan: Do we really have to do this? Why don't we just walk around it? This whole couple's challenge is a waste of time.

Me: I thought I wasn't the only one who believed in this relationship and was determined to reach the end together. I guess I was wrong.

Dan: It isn't that I don't believe in it, it's just this whole thing caused so many new problems.

Me: New? They're new to me! You've been hiding things from me for months.

Dan let out a frustrated sigh and we jumped over the bench and dirt. I saw Jova at the finish line.

Jova: Yay! You did it! Now, Beth it's your turn to put your trust on Dan.

She removed the blindfold from Dan and put it on me. She walked us to the start of the course.

            Jova: Ready. Set. Go!

I didn't move a muscle. How can I do this? How can I trust him as my partner when I can't even t rust him as my boyfriend.

Dan: C'mon Beth! You're always so frustrating!

            Frustrating? That's something else I didn't know.

With the cones, I fought with Dan for control, making it more difficult. I made it harder with the slide when I made us not slide on the mat at the same time.

Dan: Okay, now we're at the bench. We're walking around.

Me: No! Damnit, Dan! You don't want to work hard for anything!

Dan: I always work hard! In everything I do. Just because I'm working with my ex doesn't mean you have to be such a brat. Now, jump!

We jumped on top of the bench step.

            Me: What's her name?

            Dan: It doesn't matter. Jump!

We jumped on top of the bench

            Me: What's her name?!

            Dan: Angelina.

            Me: Angelina who?

            Dan: Angelina Martin!

I swear, my heart stopped. She was my worst enemy. She made my life a living hell ever since freshman year at college. I never knew she dated him.

I was so angry that I started to tear up.

            Dan: Jump, Beth!

I couldn't. I was too upset. Dan jumped, causing me to hit the second bench step and land on the hard dirt ground. The dirt turned to mud because I was so wet. I felt it in my mouth as I started to cry.

Jova ran to me to help me up and disable the cuffs. Dan also tried to help me but I pushed him away. I didn't need him. He stopped being my boyfriend the moment he said her name. No, the moment he hid her from me.

Day 5:

Today, we couldn't meet up at Jova's office. But we were technically doing the activity. The activity called for enjoying time together in silence. We were in silence, we just weren't enjoying it. After my fall yesterday, I didn't talk to Dan. He tried to make me talk to him, but I wasn't haven't it. He even called me this morning but I only texted him that I needed my space.

Did he actually thought I was going to forget that he said my worst enemy's name?

Angelina Martin is a photographer and writer. This rivalry started when we worked a project together, we had an amazing time, she was fun-loving and kind, until when we had to turn it in. The project called for both of us to be present when the project was to be graded, but I couldn't go because of a very important doctor's appointment. I trusted her to credit me on the assignment but I soon found out that she took all the credit. The professor gave me a zero and wouldn't listen to my excuse. I almost failed the class. After that she became a completely different person. She wasn't that fun-loving and kind person anymore, she was a rude girl who believed in hurting anybody to get her way.

To find out that Dan dated her tells a lot. He likes people determined to make people's lives hell and shares a quality of not telling the truth.

Part 7: The Confessions of a Stupid Romantic: Do you really know your partner?

Day 2:

The day before, Dan and I had our first session with my cousin. This couple challenge wasn't as fun as I thought it would be. After the session Dan drove me home. It was a little awkward in the car since we didn't speak. When we finally reached my apartment, he walked me to my door. He took a deep breath.

Dan: I'm sorry I didn't tell you how I really felt about us moving in together. It's just that you're the longest relationship I ever had. If we ever decide to take the next step, I would want to be 100% sure about it.

Me: I guess that seems fair. I'm sorry that I that I thought you were forceful in your advice. I know you were just trying to help me out.

He showed me his toothy grin. That made me kiss his sweet lips. He began to rub my lower back.

Me: You should stay for a little bit.

The next day, we were back in Jova's office. I kissed Dan before we began.

Jova: I'm so happy you came back! Today, we're going to do something a little different. I'm  going to talk to you two individually, mostly about your last relationships.  Dan, you're first.

            Me: Wait, what?

I didn't know how I felt about this. Alone? His past relationships?

Jova: Beth, I would like you to go outside, please.

So I did, but I did tried to listen against the door. Why was I acting like this? And why didn't I have super hearing?

It was my turn. I started to nervously shake my leg. Jova was on her phone.

            Jova: Yeah...she has a 2:30 appointment...I know...she is such a freak.

            Me: Ahem!

She finally got off the phone.

Me: So what did you talk about with Dan?

Jova: Nothing much. You're a very lucky girl. He's crazy about you.

I sighed with relief. I guess I didn't have anything to worry about.

Jova: But his ex is still a big part of his life.

            Me: What?!

Jova: Yeah, she still works with him in some of his assignments. He dated her for five years. You didn't know?

            Me: No!

Jova: Oh yeah, he didn't want you to feel threaten or something.

She has to be lying. He told me I was his longest relationship. Six months is nothing compared to five years. And he didn't want me to be threaten? Why would I be threaten? And she's his co-worker too?! Some many things were going through my head that I saw Jova's mouth moving, but heard nothing coming out of her.

            Jova: Hello! Are you okay?

            I snapped out of it.

Jova: Enough of you guys. Andre called me yesterday. We talked about getting back together. I got over him being engaged with that Swedish supermodel.

Me: Are you sure? That doesn't seem like a good idea.

Jova: Maybe. I'll talk it over with my therapist.

She got up to open the office's door.

Jova: Dan, you can come in now.

Dan took a seat right next to me. Too close to me. I couldn't look at him in the eye. He tried to put his arm around me but I pushed him away.

            Dan: What's wrong?

Me: You dated your ex for five years? And you still work with her?

Dan: How do you know that? I didn't date her for five years. I knew her for five years.

Me: You didn't tell me because you thought I would feel threaten? Do I look like an insecure girl to you?

Dan: That's not what I said. You're twisting everything!

Me: These are things you should've told me before we started dating!

All these secrets were making me very heated and emotional. I took my bag and walked out. First, I find out that I didn't know that much about Charlotte and now I find out that I don't know that much about my own boyfriend.

DAY 3:

Today is the first time I've seen or spoken to Dan after our last session. After that last session Dan tried to contact me all day. Through texting, calling, and facebook. I wasn't having it. I was too upset to answer him.

Jova: Yesterday was really tense. Somehow, Beth found out about Dan's ex. Now I feel that she should talk about her past boyfriends to even everything out.

Me: Fine, I'll take about my last loves.

That made Dan cringe a little. He looked at me hurt.

Me: My first love was in high school, his name was Erick. We even talked about moving to California when school ended, but I had to let him go when he got football scholarship in another state. My love after that was George.

            Jova: Oh, I liked George!

Me: Me too. We had amazing time together.

Okay, I'm lying. I never loved Erick. He left me for a cheerleading whore. George was also a guy who did me wrong. He has to be one of the biggest mistakes of my life.

Dan: You mean the same guy who controlled almost every part of your life? Why would you ever love someone like him?

Me: At least, he didn't work with his ex and never told me about it. Maybe if you tried to put me as a priority than we wouldn't have this conversation.

Dan: Priority? You are on the top of my priority list. I don't make any decision without thinking about how it would affect you!

Me: Really? Then what was your thought when you decided to keep this secret from me?

Dan: I thought you would feel bad of the fact that I'm working with a girl with a real career!

I gasped. My mouth started to shiver. Tears were starting in my eyes.

I thought he helped me in my writing because he felt I had potential. Not because he felt bad for me. I guess his ex has more talent then I'll ever have. How did we get to this point? The lying, yelling, and trying our best to hurt each other.

Part 6: The Confessions of a Stupid Romantic: Let the Couple's Challenge Begin!

            Ashley: How stupid are you?

            Me: What do you mean?

I was at Ashley's boutique. The store was filled with vintage and European  inspired couture. I just told her about my couple's challenge.

Ashley: I think you're making a big mistake. No offense, but your cousin is a terrible relationship therapist.

Me: No she's not. She has a lot of experience in marriage counseling. She has treated the most famous people in the world. They all credited her in their weddings.

Ashley: They also blamed her in their divorces. You and Dan are in a good place right now. Don't let her challenge ruin it. By the way, Shouldn't she focus on improving her own relationship first before trying to improve someone else's?

She was talking about her on-and-off relationship with a big-time movie director, Andre Borelli. He was incredibly talented and charming. I was so excited to meet him, I've been a fan of his for years. He was the sweetest thing and he made Jova really happy. Everything was going great until she was offered a job in Paris to be a diplomat's relationship therapist for three years. Andre thought it would be bad for them, because he loved LA and doesn't believe in long-distance relationships. They fought publically about it and once they had a fight so big it made headlines.

Apparently Andre is very demanding and dependent. Unfortunely , Jova is the exact same way. So, one night they were at a Hollywood restaurant and they were arguing about her moving to France. In the middle of it, she started throwing silverware and plates at him. He decided to the same thing. It ended with them being banned from the restaurant and Jova crying in the parking lot. The next day, she went on a TV interview spilling all their secrets. A sane person would never contact Jova again after that, but Andre was still in love with her and he wanted to make things work.

Me: But, that was the past.

Ashley: I hate to tell you this, but you're delusional. This challenge will only bring pain into your relationship. You're anniversary is next week, you don't want any tension before then.

I love Ashley, but she doesn't know what she's talking about. Dan and I are too much in love to have this damage us.

DAY 1:

Dan and I was in her rented office in Manhattan. She was busy talking on the phone.

Jova: ...She was here the other day and she told me that she's been having a hard time staying sober...I know...her husband doesn't even know about the baby.

Dan: I think we should leave. I really don't have a good feeling about this.

            Me: Nonsense.

`           Jova finally got off the phone. She looked at us with excitement.

Jova: I'm so happy you two came today. Let's start easy. What do you guys like about the relationship? Beth?

Me: I like how he always supports me in everything I do. Like my writing. Whenever I'm writing a short screenplay or a fiction article, he's there to edit my work and give me pointers on ways that I can improve my style.

Jova: Do you take all of his advice?

Me: No. I know what works for me.

Jova: Do you think that he can be forceful in his advice?

Me: No. Maybe. Sometimes, I guess.

            Dan looks at me, surprised.

            Dan: No I don't.

Me: It's not like it's a big problem. When you do act like that, I  just ignore it.

Jova: Have she ever told you about this before?

            Dan: No, never.

Jova: Interesting. Now, Dan, what do you like about the relationship?

Dan: Well, I thought it was her honesty. But, I guess it's how caring she is.

            I smiled.

Jova: Is she ever a little too caring? Is she smothering?

Dan: She can be. She also moves the relationship a little fast.

            Me: What do you mean?

Dan: You want us to move in together. You already but "Hers" and "His" towels. I'm just not ready to make such a big step.

I can't believe this. I thought he loved those towels. He tweeted about it. Maybe this relationship isn't as perfect as I make it seem. Maybe I am delusional.
